The Short Answer to: “Can I wear petite sizes (even if I’m not 5’4” and under)?”

The Short Answer to: “Can I wear petite sizes (even if I’m not 5’4” and under)?”
There have been several people who’ve asked us whether or not they can still wear Unseam the Label styles even if they aren’t exactly 5’4” and under. The short answer: yes! (Pun intended.)

In today’s fashion industry, the word "petite" refers to sizing and proportions specific to women who are 5'4" and under. But when it really comes down to it, it’s all about YOUR body proportions.

Pro Tip: Unseam the Label offers our petite sizing guide here! If you’re still concerned about which size will best fit you, drop us a line at hello@unseamthelabel.com and we’re happy to assist.

So let’s lay it out: even if you're, say, 5’7”, but have a shorter torso that fits into a petite size, you can wear a petite top. Similarly, if you’re taller than 5’4” but have an inseam that’s more similar to that of petite sizing (due to having shorter legs), you may be more fit to wear petite bottoms. And let’s be honest, we all know that dread of throwing on a pair of jeans only to have the hem be past our toes - no matter your height.

If you’re more of a visual learner, let’s break it down a la Unseam’s first collection.
  • The Emma Pants’ inseam is around 23.5”. Taller women might wear this style as more of a crop pant.
  • The Stella Dress is typically a maxi dress for petites, but some taller women may wear it as a killer midi.
  • The Natalie Jumpsuit might also be worn as a cropped-length jumpsuit for taller women who also have shorter torsos.
Of course, every body is different, which makes it all the more important to know👏🏻your👏🏻measurements👏🏻. Don’t let the fashion industry dictate what you can and cannot wear - even women over the standard 5’4” are able to rock “petite” ‘fits (and more importantly, some of our awesome Unseam the Label styles).
